The animal is used to generate a gene expression atlas of the entire organism. Through repeating this procedure in many distinct animals the goal is to trace the history of each cell type throughout evolution. Here, nerve cells are in blue/green and muscle cells in red. Hernando Martinez Vergara recorded the data and Photolab commissioned the print, both at EMBL.
