Science needs communication.
In 2007 an initiative from PhD students in physics launched by S. Günther, H. Hähl and E. Neu established a new communication channel at Saarland university – the PhD Students’ day. A one day conference organized by students for students to strengthen communication in the local physics community. The conference organization was designed and adapted to suit the needs and wishes of the attending audience. The conference was very well accepted so the team coordinated the successor PhD Students’ days in 2008 and 2009 as well. Right after the first symposium in 2007 other branches of studies at Saarland university adapted the concept and spread the idea throughout the entire university.
